Art is such a big part of who I am. I remember being very young and trailing round the house and over to my grandparents with paper and crayons, drawing all the time. This early interest in art has never left me, eventually leading to a long career as a graphic designer. As a designer, I became more interested in structure, pattern and the balance of colour and typography, something that has heavily influenced my paintings since. I also have a butterfly brain – where I flit from one approach to another, so I have a wide range of styles in my work, from pen and ink, to collage and acrylics. What they all have in common though … is lots of colour!
I still work in the creative arts, now as Owner and Creative Lead at a strategic design and branding consultancy for charities, patient organisations and educational publishers – Design Couch. It's important to me to use my skills to make positive change in the world. I am also a proud Humanist Celebrant, conducting non-religious ceremonies for weddings, naming and funerals – a role which I love. You can find out more about that here.
I love creating, so alongside art I also sew, knit, crochet and bake. I am also a bit of a dab hand with a power tool! I am most content when making stuff. I adore the seaside – it is my happy place and travelling to different shores and having new adventures always brings me joy. Other things that make me happy are my lovely man – John, my cats – Lainey Lou & Harper, shoes, my mad family, dark chocolate and tap dancing (not necessarily in that order).
This is my creative space which is tucked away at the bottom of my garden overlooking the little wildlife pond. This is where I paint, collage, sew and while away the hours. I must admit though, that it is not always this tidy!
